Smartphones & SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

Experts predict that around 5.3 billion smartphones will drop out of use in 2022. Despite the fact that they contain valuable gold, copper, silver, palladium, and other recyclable components, experts estimate that the vast majority will end up in drawers, closets, and cupboards, or in trash bins headed for landfills or cremation.
SDG 12 is about Responsible Consumption and Production, with the ultimate goal of achieving environmental sustainability. To achieve this goal, it is essential to increase consumer awareness of the topic of smartphone recycling and thereby prevent the loss of precious materials contained in smartphones.
